The Rise of the Beast.
The Ark, which had been constructed back in the age of the giants, finally settled upon dry land in the mountains of Ararat. It had safely transported Noah and his family from the old age, and now, they stepped into a new one.
It was still the same world, for the world which ”God so loved,” began with the creation of Adam, and although it almost perished, will endure until the 2nd coming of Christ, who will establish “the world to come,” generally referred to as the millennial reign of Christ.
The Spirit of God, had moved upon the face of the waters, back when the earth was yet without form and void, and long before the age of the giants. He had declared light into the darkness, and at the end of the creation week had declared all to be ”very good.”
But the darkness had seeped back into God’s creation once more, and the rise of the beast, in the form of the Nephilim, had almost prevailed.
Now that the giants and the ungodly had been wiped from the face of the earth, the Spirit of God, symbolized in the form of a dove, returned unto Noah, and offered him a freshly plucked olive leaf.
Genesis 8:11. And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf plucked off: …
. Now God made a covenant never again to destroy all flesh with water, and to this day, the token of that covenant can still be seen in the form of a rainbow.
Genesis 9:13. I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
However, Noah had previously released another bird into the new age, and this one, a raven, went forth to and fro, and had never returned.
In stark contrast to the dove and the olive leaf, both symbols of victory, peace and hope, the raven is symbolic of ill-omen, and in many cultures, is associated with the dead.
Genesis 8:7. And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.
Job 1:7. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
The raven released from the ark into the new age, is symbolic of Satan and death, for the battle between good and evil is a continual one, spilling over from one age and into the next.
Nevertheless, it took little time at all for the worship of other gods to be reinstated, and many of the later cultures and nations, would eventually pay tribute to a plethora of strange gods. Some were an attempt to deify human beings, whilst others were mythological, but it’s likely each had their root in one or more of the extra-terrestrial entities who’d sought to corrupt mankind back in the antediluvian world.
The Rise of the Nations.
There’s no mention in Genesis of God making multiple seas on Earth, only that he . gathered the waters into one place and caused the dry land to appear.
Genesis 1:9. And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
Scripture indicates that the habitable Earth was one huge landmass, with four major rivers, and surrounded by ocean. The first individual sea to be mentioned by name, is the Salt Sea in Genesis 14:3. Not only is this well after the Flood, but also after an event which divided the earth.
Things changed dramatically post-flood, in ways we can barely imagine. The relationship between antediluvian man and the animal kingdom, was now gone forever, because the fear of man had arisen in the heart of both bird and beast.
Genesis 9:2. And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.
There’s every indication that it had never rained prior to the time of the Flood, but now the ground would no longer be watered by an early morning mist, and one must assume the climate changed dramatically. It most likely contributed to the harsh extremes of weather . and temperature we have today, which in turn would cause the need for variations in skin-tone.
Likewise, it would be quite illogical to believe the topography of the earth’s surface remained unchanged by the massive upheaval of a global Flood.
The Earth slowly began to repopulate, but even one hundred years or so later, there were still no different dialects, for all spoke the same common language.
Genesis 11:1. And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
It’s not known for certain who oversaw the building of the city and tower of Babel, although it’s generally attributed to Nimrod, the great-grandson of Noah. Whoever they were, the builders were sons of men, and not the post-flood progeny of the sons of God, as some have claimed.
Genesis 11:5. And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
It was somewhere around 2250 BC, or 1750 years from the creation of Adam, when God confused the tongues of men. This gave rise to multiple languages, and caused so much confusion amongst the various language groups, that they were unable to complete the building work, and migrated from Babel in every direction.
From Genesis 11:7-9. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech..-- and from thence[Babel] did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
Some while after this mass migration, at around 2190 BC, an individual named Peleg is mentioned, in whose day, ”the earth was divided.” The given meaning of the Hebrew name Peleg, according to Strongs Dictionary, is earthquake.
Genesis 10:25. And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided….
6389 Peleg. the same as ‘peleg’ (6388) earthquake; Peleg, a son of Shem:–Peleg.
The Bible makes clear how it was the earth, rather than the nations, which was divided, and it would seem to have been caused by an earthquake, which in all likelihood was triggered by the massive upheaval caused by the earlier flood.
Abraham Ortelius ( 14 April 1527 – 28 June 1598) is generally recognized as the creator of the first modern world atlas, and is believed to be the first person to imagine that the continents were joined together before drifting to their present positions
In his work Thesaurus Geographicus, Ortelius suggested that the Americas were “torn away from Europe and Africa … by earthquakes and floods,” and continues with; “The vestiges of the rupture reveal themselves, if someone brings forward a map of the world and considers carefully the coasts of the three [continents].”
During the 1960’s geophysical and geological evidence for sea-floor spreading at mid-oceanic ridges became increasingly compelling to geologists (e.g. Hess, 1960,) and finally continental drift was established as an ongoing global mechanism. After more than three centuries, Ortelius’s supposition of continental drift was proven correct. (Credit:Wikipedia).
Personally, when it comes to geology or any other form of ‘ology’ I know next to nothing, and I’m sure the experts would claim the process of continental drift to take tens or hundreds of thousand years.
However, if the Biblical account is trustworthy, and at least one male and one female of each species of air-breathing animal boarded the ark, then how were they able to arrive at the ark, and return back to their homeland after the flood?
Reason and logic demand that the pre-flood continents must have been connected, even if only by land-bridges, and that those bridges still existed after the flood and remained intact until the earth was ”divided.
Noah and his three sons spent one hundred or so years building the ark, and there there was also a period of one hundred years . . after the flood-waters had subsided, but . prior to the earthquake which divided the earth.
Assuming a travel-rate of just eight miles per month, this would allow plenty of time for each animal species to gradually arrive from present-day Australia, for example, and return to their homeland after.
God established the individual language groups at Babel, and each had the better part of ten centuries to traverse the earth before the earthquake which divided the present-day continents.
Seen this way, and if taken literally, the Bible provides a perfectly logical explanation as to how the . nations and languages arose from the first man and woman, and why Eve was referred to as ‘the mother of all living.’
Genesis 3:20. And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
